The person I'm sewing for prefers funky to traditional, and loves bright colors. So I found the brightest fabrics in my stash, and started out. I've been dying to try this flower pincushion pattern, so this is what I have so far:

To my surprise, this doesn't look all that bright. I guess using realistic colors makes it seem less edgy. Honest, these fabrics just screamed "Hey, look at me!" when I originally laid them out.
Plus, I'm not too excited about how the flower petals turned out. There are a couple of overlaps that aren't supposed to be there, and one has a pucker in it. And look at that center "circle." Hardly a circle, to be truthful.
I think I'll call this a learning experience, and keep it for myself. I think it will be really cute, just not quite as perfect as I'd like for giving away. Tomorrow I will buy some fiberfill stuffing (can't believe I'm out???), and hopefully get it finished soon, but I think it will be mine, all mine.
Now I need a Plan B. I think I'll still use the same fabrics, and add in some pinks I have, as well. Not sure what pattern I'll use yet. Something which has a lot of colors on top, if I can find it. I think my best bet to really make these fabrics pop is to put them all together, maybe in a way that I would normally think clashes.
* Only one swap this time. I think.
